Despite the showery weather, the crowds turned out in force to visit the 1998 Littleton and Harestock Show. |
| There were stalls selling everything from stuffed toys to conserves; from
second-hand books to plants and vegetables. As usual the miniature train, run by the Winchester Model Club, was as popular attraction. |

| A mechanical organ made a cheerful sound - you could even investigate its
workings round the back. Some stalls had competitions and draws, to tempt the gambling instinct, and hotdogs were available to fuel the body. |

| Games involving giant dice and mallets seemed very popular. Or you could try to beat a young goalkeeper with penalty shooting. He didn't seem to let many past so it fortunate that England's World Cup hopes didn't depend on this 'shoot out'. |  |

The junior football competition took place in the arena again this year. |
| But the Majorettes failed to appear. A last minute dads versus children football competition was organised. It was an enjoyable but chaotic affair and I don't think that anyone was sure of the final score! |  |

Perfectly maintained vintage cars and vans drew lots of admiring
onlookers. How do they keep them so clean and shiny? The charity stalls were also popular, but surely the teddy bear bungy jumping should have been a case for the RSPTB (Royal Society for the Protection of Teddy Bears). |

The Craft Tent had a wide range of demonstrations on view. Painting, photography, card making, crochet and spinning were all on show. |
| And there were bargains on many stalls, with carved wooden bowls and hand spun, dyed and knitted garments, all at very reasonable prices. |  |

The Show Tent contained its usual impressive display of beautifully grown
fruit, flowers and vegetables. No less impressive were the displays of home cooking, wine making, painting, photography, sewing and other crafts and hobbies, all produced by local people. What a talented and industrious community we have. |
