| The hundreds of locals, arriving for the official opening of
the hall, were well entertained by the very mobile band of the Light Division. At 3.30 pm the speeches and dedications began and the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire performed the official opening by cutting a ribbon to reveal the commemorative sculpture outside the hall. |
The links between the old hall and the new were stressed by
several speakers and, as a token of this connection, baskets of flowers were presented to
5 residents (all women) who were also at the opening of the original hall in 1923. With the formal events over, the fun could begin! |

When planning the events for the official opening, the
trustees wanted the whole day to be free, as a tangible 'thank you' all for the
support from the Littleton & Harestock community. This was achieved thanks to a generous grant from the Parish Council, a dedicated fund raising event and anticipated profits from the sale of commemorative mugs. Even the cakes and teas (provided by the local Women's Institute), were free. |

| The days entertainment included Woodfidley Folk Dancers and the beer tent proved very popular. | Children were not forgotten - they had a Bouncy Castle, Punch & Judy and a clown to keep them amused. And, in the spirit of the day, all were free. |
