The Parish Council is proud of the Littleton Recreation Ground and endeavours
to maintain and adapt it in a way that is conducive to conservation and
biodiversity. Various exercises are currently underway to extend and promote
both spring and summer meadowland flora in the top Conservation Field in
conjunction with ensuring that insects and mammals are provided with adequate
cover for shelter, nesting and over-wintering when areas are cut. Hedgerow flora
planting is also being targeted this year and it is intended to set aside a
small area of mixed woodland to try to introduce a habitat for owls, bats and
the deer, all of which are frequent visitors. The Recreation Ground is not only
there to provide sports and play facilities for all ages but can provide
pleasant and interesting exercise for all and whilst walking you might spot a
young deer or a chaMill blue butterfly.
If you are interested in helping out please contact: David or Barbara Strugnell

Kevin
Lay Foundation "It is better to light a candle, than curse the darkness."
The Kevin Lay Foundation
The Kevin Lay
Foundation was set up in November 1999 in memory of Kevin, a Littleton resident
and church warden at St. Catherine's, who died in a plane crash over Kosovo,
whilst on his way to assist in a building programme with TearFund. The
foundation provides grants to help young people from Littleton and its
neighbouring parishes to work on short-term projects with Christian mission or
aid agencies.
Since its inception the foundation has made grants totalling £13,376 to 44
recipients, enabling local youngsters to take part in short term projects around
the world. Six young travellers have been helped by the Kevin Lay Foundation
during 2007, working in the Philippines, Ukraine, Nepal, India (2), and
Tanzania. Their visits were inspired by their Christian faith and have been
dedicated both to improving conditions in the countries in which they have
worked, and to sharing the love of Jesus with those they have met along the way.
Kevin cared passionately about the social injustices of this world and felt called by God to do something actively to help. He felt it was "better to light a candle, than curse the darkness". Applications are invited at any time. Further information and application forms are available from Carol Ward (883185) or Clive Thompsett (885039).

Drawing, water colours, pastels.

Croquet is a game which can be played on equal terms by all, regardless of
age. gender or physical attributes. Littleton Croquet Club was formed in 1983,
and occupies two newly laid lawns at the Littleton Recreation Ground. The Club
has thrived since its formation, and now has nearly 50 playing members. Since
1983 many local people learned the game, and have come to enjoy its challenges
and the social events which are an important part of the Club's calendar.
Annual subscriptions are carefully reviewed at the start of each year and have
always been kept as low as possible consistent with the need to cover essential
outgoings. The 2005 subscription was set at £52 for a full season. If you would
like to try your hand at croquet, please contact Clive Thompsett on 885039, who
will be pleased to make the necessary arrangements.
The South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Community Responder Team, consists
of community based volunteers trained and insured by the Ambulance Service to
respond to emergency (999) calls for an ambulance and to provide first aid until
the ambulance arrives.
The South Central Ambulance Service believes that the Community Responders using
their equipment to provide Early Access, Early Defibrillation, Early
Resuscitation and Early Advanced Life Support, can increase the survival rate of
heart attack victims by as much as 10% for each minute saved in answering the
call.
Anyone who wants to help their community can possibly become a Community
Responder. No previous medical experience or training is necessary although you
will obviously need a caring attitude, be reasonably fit and be able to cope
with potentially distressing situations. You also need to have access to a
vehicle (for use when you go on duty) and be aged between 18 and 70.
All participants are assessed throughout the short training course and will sit
a basic test before begin able to become a Responder. Once qualified, Community
Responders continue training and are required to re-qualify every 6 months.
The Team have been in operation since January 2002 and have since expanded the
area served to include Weeke and Teg Down. They now answer calls at an average
rate of 20 per month (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
For more details on what they do and how you can help please take a look at
