Demolishing the Old Memorial Hall

On Tuesday, 6 April, 1999 work began to demolish the old Memorial Hall. In less than a week, nothing was left but the toilet block (which will be retained). The old hall did not go entirely without a struggle, though. In their attempts to remove the very solid foundations, the demolition contractors burst a water main and heavy machinery was needed to complete the task.

One of our parishioners, who had many years of involvement with this hall, said he thought he would be unable to watch the demolition because of his fondness for it. But, when the time came, the presence of the magnificent new hall, helped to compensate for the loss. These sentiments echo those of many of the parishioners of Littleton & Harestock who have used the old hall for over 70 years.
